SINGAPORE: Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan contracted dengue fever on Thursday (July 23), after he entered an isolation room.
Khaw, who withdrew from politics in June, said at a Facebook post around noon on Thursday that his temperature had “skyrocketed” before a signing rite to finalize the proposed immediate shipping formula link between Singapore and Malaysia.
“My career in the Ministry of Health. After 42 years, I didn’t expect to leave the level in bed as a patient!” Khaw said, posting a picture of himself in the hospital.
In reaction to the ANC’s questions, Khaw’s later showed that he had contracted dengue and had also tested negative for COVID-19.
This is the third time Khaw has contracted dengue fever, he said, his first encounter with the disease dates back to the 1980s.
He’s been hospitalized at Singapore General Hospital lately.
In his Facebook post, Khaw said the cause of his hospitalization was “unlikely to be COVID,” but that dengue was imaginable because his domain is a “hot zone.”
According to Mr. Khaw’s office, he has recently lived in the Yio Chu Kang area.
The National Environment Agency (AEN) presents several dengue groups in the Yio Chu Kang area.
According to NEA data, as of 22 July, there were 424 high-risk dengue groups in Singapore, with 262 groups under surveillance.
The number of dengue cases in Singapore this year has already exceeded the total number of all 2019.
