Alanna Smith joined The Globe and Mail’s Calgary bureau in April 2022. She is passionate about social issues and covers topics such as the drug poisoning crisis, homelessness, and intellectual health. Prior to joining the Globe, Alanna worked for The Canadian Press and the Calgary Herald. , where she was nominated for the 2019 National Newspaper Award in the reporting category for a set of articles on domestic violence. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Women’s and Gender Studies from Carleton University in Ottawa.
Carrie Tait is a reporter for the Calgary bureau of The Globe and Mail and covers rural politics, rural issues and culture, and breaking news. His reporting ranges from race relations in his home province of Saskatchewan to the lighthearted theme of skiing cats in Alberta. Carrie reported on wildfires and flooding in Alberta and British Columbia; how Cargill’s High River meat processing plant has become the focus of Canada’s largest COVID-19 outbreak; and identify trends among Calgary Stampede attendees. Previously, he covered power for the Globe’s Report on Business and also reported for the National Post. He joined the National Post’s Calgary bureau in 2008 after moving from Toronto, where he focused on business.
