Transit of goods in Kazakhstan increases

ASTANA. Kazakhstan has big plans to identify transnational hubs, Kassym Tlepov, deputy chairman of the Transport Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development, said at the roundtable on global investment in Kazakhstan, Kazinform reports.

“$35 billion has been invested in Kazakhstan’s shipping sector over the past 15 years. 2,500 km of railways and 13,000 km of motorized roads were built. Kazakhstan has big plans to shape cross-border hubs and build the perspective of north-south and east-west shipping corridors,” he said.

The dry port on the border between Kazakhstan and China has opened up a new level in Eurasian transcontinental transport, he added.

In his words, the road signs are in today.

“123 million of 700,000 tonnes of goods were transported by rail in 2021. 3 million of 500,000 tons are exports, 19 million of 200,000 tons are imports and 21 million tons are in transit. As for European countries, 6,500,000 goods have been exported, 122,600 have been imported and 3,500,000 are in transit,” Tlepov said.

Russia’s merchandise exports to European Union countries reached 6 million tonnes from 200,000 tonnes in the nine months of 2022.
