Tourism falls 87. 4% in August in dominican Republic

 

 

The fall in foreign tourism continued in August in the Dominican Republic, with a minimum of 87. 4% compared to the same month last year, the Central Bank reported on Tuesday.

In August 50,068 foreign tourists came to the Caribbean country, a minimum of 7. 46% as of July, when the borders were re-opened after 4 months of closure by the pandemic.

Including Dominicans living abroad, tourism fell 77. 8%, according to the Central Bank’s monthly report.

In the first 8 months of the year, foreign tourists declined by 67. 3%, while non-resident Dominicans experienced a negative replenishment of 51. 1%.

In August, 67. 4% of those who landed on Dominican beaches, for a total of 33,789 people, arrived from the United States.

Tourism is the largest sector of the Dominican economy, to which it contributes about 8% of gross domestic product (GDP), and is also the main foreign exchange sector.

The Dominican government has announced a plan to revive tourism, which will begin on September 15.

The plan includes loose insurance for tourists to provide them with a medical policy on the occasion of COVID-19.

Insurance will cover long-term accommodation prices, such as hospitalization prices and flight adjustments if travelers are affected by the coronavirus.

As a component of this plan, legal responsibility for performing a PCR verification before traveling to the country has also been eliminated.
