In an incredible (and, accidentally or not, hilarious) video message posted at Japan’s Fuji-Q Highland amusement park, two executives can be seen riding a roller coaster in complete silence while wearing masks. 2020 is rarely much fun.
Park participants no longer scream and scream while riding the park’s many rides, as the Wall Street Journal reported, to slow the spread of the coronavirus. At the end of the video you can see a message that reads, “Please cry out in your heart. “
Instead of shutting down theme parks entirely, Japan is looking to adjust the habits of its visitors to minimize the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19. Yelling, coughing, and making a song have been shown to release tiny droplets and aerosols. That can spread the disease. Even talking might be enough.
But the new rule would possibly be an insane task, because it’s not as if those on the roller coaster are willingly screaming. You’d want nerves from metal to chorus to scream on a death-defining, adrenaline-pumping theme park ride.
“There’s just no way not to scream,” Rika Matsuura, a student who visited Tokyo Disneyland last week, told the WSJ. “It’s kind of torture to go back to your favorite position in the world and not scream and enjoy it all. “One hundred percent. “
