The Times of Israel presented more than 10 years ago almost at the same time as Israel Story, one of the most popular podcasts in the country, created by 4 friends.
Now, the two media organizations are joining forces: the award-winning Israel Story podcast, the most listened to of its kind, will now be featured on The Times of Israel, featured alongside ToI’s podcasts. It will begin next month with season seven. of the history of Israel.
It’s a partnership that makes a lot of sense,” David Horovitz, founding editor of The Times of Israel.
“The Israel Story team tells stories that pass to the center of Israeli life in all its diversity,” Horovitz said. “They have built a well-deserved reputation for high-quality, excellently produced and painstakingly researched podcasts that capture the desirable facets of Israel. They cover an Israel that is essential, and so that we can show it on our platform, we expand the territory we can cover.
The way Horovitz and his team at The Times of Israel think about “telling the story of this position is very similar to how we think about it,” said Mishy Harman, founding editor of Israel Story.
“The Times of Israel knows how to nuance things and accept as truth with readers that they can take charge of complex situations, which is what this position is all about.
It was Harman who first conceived Israel Story, based on his deep love for “This American Life,” NPR’s outstanding radio exhibit that tells stories about America and its people.
At the time, Harman was 29 and his co-founder and friend, Ro’ee Gilron, had spent hours listening to NPR’s “This American Life” in combination with a long road trip.
When they returned to Israel, they reconnected with their mutual friends Yochai Maital and Shai Satran, and Harman began thinking about the concept of creating the Israeli equivalent of “This American Life. “
That was ten years ago. Today, “Israel Story” is an award-winning podcast that tells the stories of Israeli life, most commonly in English, though it started in Hebrew, from its new home in the Jerusalem Foundation offices, where partners also have a snapshot. El- Art Studio opened in September.
Israel Story has partnered with other media outlets in the past, adding six seasons with Tablet Magazine.
It was the pandemic that Harman started looking for offices, “since everyone was working remotely and after ten years of operating in coffee department stores and libraries, it was time to set in,” he said.
The podcast is lately a varied team of Jerusalemites, and in addition to generating its own programs, Israel Story also runs educational stations for other organizations, plans a Palestinian podcast, and designs a storytelling app for Jerusalem that will be for recording stories, many like WhatsApp message recording.
“We expect to be in the same orbit as David [Horovitz] and the [Times of Israel] reporters,” Harman said. “Or we are Jerusalem organizations; It will be a real win-win.
