This pile turns a Balkan river into a floating dump

A video through environmental activists shows massive piles of garbage piled up in the Drina River in eastern Bosnia, turning it into a floating dump.

Tons of plastic bottles, rusty barrels, used tires, appliances, driftwood are stuck in a waste barrier installed through a Bosnian hydroelectric plant near Visegrad.

According to a member of the environmental organization Eko Centar Visegrad, about 10,000 cubic meters of waste have accumulated on the fence in recent days.

Recent heavy rains and hot weather have caused rivers flowing through Bosnia, Serbia and Montenegro to overflow, carrying piles of waste dumped into landfills across rivers or into rivers.
