BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – California State Superintendent Tony Thurmond has said he supports distance learning for now and in Kern County, districts are looking for what works for their community.
Some districts are moving to start distance learning in the fall and some have a hybrid plan. Other districts are still in the process of decision-making.
Here is a list of Kern County School District prestige for the 2020-2021 school year:

Delano Joint Union High School District: According to the rules provided through Governor Newsom on July 17, the Delano Joint Union High Schools District will begin the 2020/2021 school year with a distance learning style only. Schools will be allowed to incorporate other training styles as Kern County meets state criteria. The school is scheduled to begin on August 12.
Delano United School District: The Board of Directors of the Delano United School District has unanimously approved a 5-0 gradual reopening plan. From August to January next year, they’ll be 100 percent remote. They plan to re-evaluate and move to a hybrid model, if possible, of distance learning and in-person training from February to June 2021.
Di Giorgio Primary School District: DGESD will begin the school year with distance education. Students in grades 2 through 8 will have Chromebooks.
Edison School District: ESD stated that during the first trimester, all TK-8 education will be remote only until October 9. If it is through fitness officers, the district will move on to combined learning by the time of the trimester. This plan will be in effect for the first nine weeks of the school year. The DSU resumes school on August 12.
El Tejon School District: ETUSD announced 3 features that parents can choose from. Option 1: Students will participate in a hybrid learning style to combine classroom face-to-face training with distance learning. Option 2: Students can participate in a comprehensive distance learning program on the Online Canvas platform. Option 3: Students can participate in the ETUSD Condor Academy Independent Studies Program.
Fairfax School District: As a result, all schools in the Fairfax School District will begin the 2020-2021 school year with distance learning starting Wednesday, August 12, 2020 and will continue until the end of the first trimester on October 16, 2020.
Fruitvale School District: The FUSD will begin as a remote school year model.
Greenfield Union School District: The school will begin on August 12 with Phase 1, which includes full distance learning where “students will participate through Google Classroom five days a week following a mandatory attendance instruction schedule.” Once Kern County is removed from the state watch list, the district will have the opportunity to move on to phase two, a hybrid style. Students will attend school two days a week and participate in distance learning on the other 3 days of the week. Parents will have the opportunity to keep their children learning at a distance. The district will move to phase 3 if “conditions are appropriate”. Students will report to the school five days a week with “restrictions/protocols in a position to ensure the fitness and protection of students and parents.” Once again, parents will have the opportunity to keep their students at a distance. Phase 4 will be an unrestricted classic style lap.
Kern High School District: KHSD will resume school with distance learning from August 12 to October 9. After that, schools will begin to switch to a hybrid plan, allowing 25% of students on campus. The Board will meet again on August 3 to discuss its position.

Lost Hills School District: LHSD is preparing to submit its preliminary plan to the board for approval (no date has been set), but changes are still being made after the governor’s announcement to address the option of a 100 percent distance learning program.

McFarland United School District: MUSD has opted for a progressive plan for physical reopening of alternately scheduled schools for kindergarten and first grade students. The remaining fellows will continue their distance learning until the next steps are opened. There are 4 stages in general for the physical reopening of all schools in the district. McKittrick School District: Nothing has been decided. The District has a special board assembly scheduled for July 28.
Mojave Unified School District: The District has advised all students to start the school year in comprehensive online distance learning and where situations are appropriate to return to teaching in person, MUSD will bring students back to schools with a progressive approach.
Norris School District: The NSD is still discussing plans for the next school year. In the last letter to parents, the district asked them if they opted for classic on-campus learning or distance learning. The district asked parents to respond until July 19. The Board of Directors will review the resolution at an interim assembly on 21 July.
Panama Union School District-Buena Vista: The Board of Directors of the Union School District of Panama-Buena Vista has voted in favor of the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year with an online distance learning program. While we prefer students to be in school with all the normal, learning and social/emotional help this provides them, protecting our students and staff is paramount as we move forward in those unprecedented times with distance learning.
Richland School District: The RSD Board of Directors has taken the resolution to reopen with a hybrid approach to classroom and online training as of August 6. Students will go to school two days a week and paint the other 3 days of the house on a chance to make sure their youth continue to get their schooling through the distance education model. Registration for distance education can be obtained at rsdshafter.org. The next assembly scheduled for RSD is August 10.
Rio Bravo-Greeley Unified School District: The RBGUSD Board of Directors voted to offer two educational program options: and a.m./p.m. 4 days a week or remotely.
