There’s no place for rigging, violence in Edo

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday that Saturday’s vote on the post of governor in the state of Edo would take a position in a busy environment.

The agency, which has developed a comprehensive plan to safeguard the sanctity of elections, warned troublemakers to stay away from the state.

INEC President Professor Mahmud Yakubu told stakeholders at the Oba Akenzua Cultural Center in Benin, the state capital, that the company had packed insurance to determine voter fraud.

It stated that ballots and effect sheets had security elements that constituted a transparent break with past votes.

Ensuring that the votes will count, he said there will be no room for impunity on Election Day, adding that the entire bureaucracy of electoral crimes will result in sanctions.

Police Inspector General Mohammed Adamu said he had deployed 31,000 police officers to provide security.

He warned that no disruption would be tolerated through security guards, who had a mandate to deal with voter offenders.

Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy Philip Shaibu attended the assembly; South-South, president of the leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Orbih; Edo PDP President Dr. Tony Aziegbemi; and his counterpart of the Congress of All Progressives (APC), Colonel David Imuse (rtd).

The national head of INEC at the rate of the states of Edo, Bayelsa and Rivers, Ms. May Agbamuche-Mbu, also contributed to the forum; and Dr. Johnson Alalibo, Resident Electoral Commissioner of the State of Edo (REC).

Yakubu stated that the plan proposed by INEC to implement optimal generation training would be moderate to avoid further complication of the already loaded environment.

He said: “The environment in the state of Edo before this weekend’s election is already loaded. We cannot complicate it further with the introduction of a new generation with which we are not yet completely satisfied.

Yakubu under pressure that, INEC has committed to a non-violent and credible election, the effects of voting sets will be unloaded for the public’s eye.

He said: “The commission has made the decision that no one benefits from impunity or is rewarded for their bad behavior, such as buying votes, snatching and filling ballot boxes, multiple voting, kidnapping and misappropriation of electoral material, alteration of the ranking, falsification of results, attacking INEC officials or forcing them to demand unofficial results.

“Other people in the state of Edo will have to be able to vote freely for their favorite candidate without incitement or harassment. “

Yakubu added: “We have been entrusted by the security agencies that the thugs and their sponsors will be free to move freely to disrupt the elections or the gathering of results. “

The holder of INEC, the national headquarters of the commission shall oversee the elections.

“Our zoom scenario room will get live reports from the field. Accredited observers and the media will also be invited to register at intervals.

“By doing so, the commission will gain first-hand information as the election progresses.

“At the same time, citizens can touch us on our platforms such as the INEC Citizen Contact Center (ICCC) hotline, as well as our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Recognizing the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on voting preparation, Yakubu said: “In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, polling stations will now open at 8:30 a. m. (was 8:00 a. m. ) and close at 2:30 p. m. (was 2:00 p. m. ).

“This is mandatory to take into account additional public fitness coverage measures needed through the global fitness emergency.

“However, all eligible voters who are in line at 2:30 p. m. they will be able to vote in accordance with the rules of the commission. “

Introducing the agency’s plans to implement the technology, he said: “The tablet camera will be used to take an image of the result of the voting unit (EC8A) and upload it to a compromised portal.

“Our ICT branch worked on the new formula and made a presentation to the commission that the formula had to be physically powerful enough before it could be implemented in a primary election.

“Unlike the 44 polling stations in nasarawa State’s central district, the election of the governor of Edo reaches 2,627 polling stations. The committee that, as this generation is developing, deserves some other control in some of the constituencies in the part-elections scheduled for October 31, 2020 and then interact with stakeholders before they can be deployed in major electoral districts.

“The atmosphere in the state of Edo before this weekend’s election is already busy. We cannot complicate it further by presenting a new generation with which we are not yet completely satisfied.

“The discharge of the effects at the polling station point of Saturday’s election will be carried out as planned. Z-pads have already been delivered, configured and ad hoc personnel trained to deploy on Election Day. challenges Nasarawa’s well-known performance test. We anticipate that there will be great traffic from other people interested in seeing the effects in real time.

“As a result, the Commission has dynamically expanded the effects display portal to accommodate nearly two million viewers at the same time without obstruction. To view downloaded effects, please check out our online page (www. Inecelectioneffects. Com) to log in and create an account.

“Smart card readers will be used for voter verification and authentication. This is a mandatory requirement and if the integrity of the electoral procedure is intentionally avoided, the result for the voting unit involved will be declared null and void, in accordance with the regulations and directives of the commission.

Yakubu is confident that election officials will be impartial on Election Day, adding that all special cases have been monitored.

He said: “I need to assure you that the Nigerian police workers’ corps will remain bold, business and professional. This is also the first time the Interagency Electoral Security Committee has been created. Members developed a code of conduct for the workers’ security corps election.

“Staff know that a document has already been circulated to them stating that they will be convicted of any irregularities. There is also a formula for synergy between the police, INEC and other security agencies involved in the election, in order to free, fair and credible elections.

“Plans have also been developed across all the security sets involved in the election to decisively confront disruptive elements and proactively thwart any attempt to undermine the election. We will deploy another 31,000 people to INEC officials, apparatus and electorate.

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Alalibo said the firm is in a position for voting, adding that sensitive documents would arrive this week.
