Last month, Truly Nuts, a White Lion Foods company, announced a partnership with wholesaler CLF Distribution, which would allow it to bring flavored Brazil nuts in 12 units to the U. K.
Whilst Brazil nuts have been previously coated in chocolate and yoghurt, no one has managed to flavour one…until now.
Speaking with Greg Vickers, co-founder and product manager of the logo that completed this feat, he explained that the difficulty of flavoring this nut is a result of the fact that the sleek exterior is a confusing surface to “stick the aroma to. “”
“White Lion Foods, our sister company, has the most technologically advanced Brazil Nut Factory, in the Peruvian Amazon Jungle. From where we have been supplying commoditised Brazil Nuts to customers in over 40 countries,” he continued.
“It’s been part of our vision to think about how we can create more prices within the category, which, in turn, would put the price back on the thousands of people we employ in the region, while also offering consumers a healthy snack. alternative. “
To create flavored Brazil nuts, the company applies “slow roasting and then subtly adds low-temperature flavorings. “
The nuts are also flavoured in the UK, close to the brand’s consumers “for maximum freshness and flavour”.
It took around 18 months of development to produce the end product, which come in flavours such as smoked and hot chilli, along with dark and milk chocolate iterations.
“To start with, we had many options as flavours. We slowly worked on improvement and natural selection of best in-house flavours as decided by our team, before taking these out to the consumer, getting feedback from different sources, all whilst making marginal improvements as we went along, until we got to the flavours range we have taken to market.”
Flavored Brazil nuts are available in the UK and US. Truly Nuts is available in the U. S. , directly from the Truly Nuts website or through Amazon. They will now also be provided through healthcare wholesaler CLF Distribution, which serves consumers such as Planet Organic and The Better Food Company. .
The Brazil nut market in Europe, in particular, is expected to see stable expansion as consumers become more concerned about their health. According to data from Technavio, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and France are among the most sensible markets for Brazil nuts from the continent.
Vickers agrees that the UK’s love for Brazil nuts is mainly for fitness and sustainability reasons.
The company says it’s now Singapore, South Korea, Australia and the rest of Europe, with launches planned for this year.
Concluding about the future, Vickers added: “We will continue our quest to produce the tastiest nuts in the world; [and] from Brazil alone, we will also offer a great diversity of nut blends: cashews and almonds.
“Beyond that, we firmly know that there is a lot of potential, not only with Brazil nuts, but also with plant strength in general, especially those discovered in spaces in the Amazon rainforest, where we get Brazil nuts from. We would love to be able to be offering those treasures to our customers.
