ADRENALINE junkies will be in luck: the world’s tallest and fastest roller coaster will be built in Saudi Arabia.
Falcon’s Flight will debut at Six Flags Qiddiya next year and promises to reach a top speed of 250 km/h and fly over a cliff in the desert.
Falcon’s Flight, dubbed the world’s first “Exa Coaster,” is expected to be the first to surpass 500 feet in height with a 640-foot drop.
The current height record holder at 456 feet is Kingda Ka, at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey.
The Saudi charm will be taller than the iconic London Eye, which is 442 feet tall.
The super roller coaster will also be the longest ever created, with a record length of 2. 64 miles.
It will cover more than 13,000 feet of track, about a mile more than the current world record holder, Steel Dragon 2000 at Nagashima Spa Land in Japan.
Flying over a Formula 1 circuit, Falcon’s Flight will beat the current speed record holder.
The Formula Rossa at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi reaches a speed of 240 km/h and requires drivers to wear protective glasses.
The Falcon’s Flight exercise will seat 14 people, two in the front car and four in the remaining three cars, and each row will have its own windshield, eliminating the need for goggles.
The commission presented this week through Intamin at the exhibition of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions.
“Roller coaster enthusiasts around the world have been waiting for this attraction since it was announced, as there is nothing like it anywhere else,” said Philippe Gas, CEO of Qiddiya.
“Now that we’re on the design with the experts at Intamin and the Six Flags engineering team, the excitement is building! The Falcon
“The attraction will dominate the Qiddiya skyline around our destination, just outside the theme park, up and down the cliff – the largest drop of any attraction in the world; it will be for the faint-hearted. “
Saudi Arabia also has big plans beyond its amusement parks, as the kingdom needs a leading winter sports center with its own desert snow station.
In the coming years, the Trojena ski hotel could include cities such as Val d’Isère, Verbier and Zermatt among the most productive ski hotels in the world.
Trojena will host the 2029 Asian Winter Games and work has already begun on this arid region to turn it into a futuristic resort.
The task is part of Saudi Arabia’s $500 billion (£400 billion) NEOM task, which includes at its center a 75-mile-long skyscraper called The Line.
The task is the brainchild of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and painting has also begun on this structure.
Trojena will be built in the Sarawat Mountains, about 30 miles east of the Red Sea coast, where the average temperature is 10°C cooler than in the rest of the region.
It will feature a synthetic freshwater lake, a nature reserve and ski slopes.
Temperatures in the region drop to freezing in winter and it is one of the few places in the desert kingdom where snow accumulates.
The kingdom will also open “the most futuristic hotel in the world. “
The resort’s developers, Red Sea Global, hope to open the Sheybarah Resort, a space-age resort, in 2024.
It will be on the uninhabited island of Shaybara, a 45-minute boat ride from the mainland.
According to the developers, the area is home to a highly varied environment with dense mangroves, desert flora, white sand dune beaches, coral plains and seagrass beds.
They also say it’s home to some of the most pristine coral reefs in the world, home to many species of birds, fish, and other marine life.
The designers say the main goal of the project is to maintain the biodiversity of the surrounding habitat as much as possible, while offering a sumptuous experience that will attract visitors from all over the world.
Part of the purpose is to “change the name of Saudi Arabia to a leading destination for marine ecotourism. “
