DOHA, Qatar (AP) – Former Spanish midfielder and Barcelona player Xavi Hernández has conducted coronavirus screening.
Xavi, 40, now coach of Qatari club Al-Sadd, said Saturday that he had been reviewed in accordance with Qatari league protocol and that the lacheck showed that he had COVID-19.
“Fortunately, I feel good, but I’ll be away until I have the green light. When the fitness permits, I’ll be looking ahead to get back to my daily regimen and work,” Xavi said on Instagram.
Al-Sadd announced on his online page that Xavi will not sign up for the rest of the team for his league fit against Al-Khor later on Saturday.
It is Al-Sadd’s first match in 3rd place since the league’s suspension in March due to the pandemic. The league resumed on Friday.
Qatar recorded 109,036 cases and attributed 164 deaths to the virus, according to Johns Hopkins University.
