The US Open 2020 will be played in the absence of enthusiasts due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The United States Golf Association (USGA) announced the resolution Wednesday, and the PGA Tour season resumes the month.
The United States has recorded more than 4.5 million COVID-19 projections, with a death toll of more than 153,000.
“After months of consultation and development of situation plans with local and national fitness officials, together we decided that organizing the U.S.Open without spectators would provide the most productive opportunity to lead the championship safely for all parties involved,” said USGA executive director Mike Davis.
“We look forward to the excitement of the enthusiasts and what their presence brings to the championship. We look forward to welcoming you to the next U.S. Open.”
The U.S. Open is scheduled to be held at Winged Foot Golf Club in New York from September 17.
