The United States reports more than 60,000 cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours

The United States reported more than 60,000 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the largest increase ever reported in any country in a single day, according to a Reuters tally.

The U. S. is facing a grim summer with record infections and many states forced to shut down parts of their economies again, leaving some without pay.

In addition to about 10,000 new cases in Florida, Texas has reported more than 9,500 cases and California has reported more than 8,500 new infections. California and Texas also reported a record increase in the number of deaths in one day.

It’s the second day in a row that the U. S. death toll rose to more than 900 in one day, the highest level since early June, according to the tally.

Tennessee, West Virginia and Utah have seen record increases in new cases, with infections surging in 42 of 50 states, according to a Reuters study of cases in the past two weeks compared to the past two weeks.

The U. S. tally was 60,020 on Wednesday night, and some governments have yet to report.

The past U. S. record for new cases in one day was 56,818 last Friday. The United States has reported more than 3 million cases and 132,000 deaths from the virus, putting President Donald Trump’s pandemic strategy under surveillance.

Worldwide, the death toll rose to more than 12 million on Wednesday, with 546,000 deaths.
