The administration is ending its flexible home-based COVID-19 program this week, raising a lack of investment and efforts to maintain the source of a projected buildup in cases in the fall, a White House official told CNN on Sunday.
The White House and the place where others can claim their evidence have accused Congress of not offering more investment for the program, which has provided as many as 16 loose tests according to the family since the beginning of the year.
“Orders through this program will be suspended on Friday, September 2 because Congress has not provided further investments to complete the country’s test inventory,” Covid. gov said.
Management introduced the initiative, which sent immediate checks to Americans through the U. S. Postal Service, in January amid a flurry of variant Omicron instances and limited availability of checks. However, officials warned for months that, without further funding from Congress, the administration would be forced to continue its COVID-19 response efforts.
“We warned that congressional inaction would force unacceptable commitments and damage our overall preparedness and reaction to COVID-19, and that the consequences would likely worsen over time,” the White House official told CNN. “Unfortunately, because of the limited investment we have to work on, we’ve had to create potential options for which equipment and systems to invest in, and which ones we want to reduce, pause or end all together. “
Still, the official said the administration would “quickly resume the distribution of loose tests through COVIDTests. gov” as long as Congress allocates more funds, however, “[u] so far, we know that reserving the remaining tests for distribution later this year is the most productive course. “
