MOSCOW >> A trio of travelers returned safely to Earth on Thursday after a six-month project on the International Space Station.
The Soyuz MS-16 capsule with NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy and Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Vagner of Roscosmos landed on the steppes of Kazakhstan southeast of the city of Dzhezkazgan at 0754 (2:54 GMT) on Thursday. After a brief medical examination, the 3 will be taken by helicopter to Dzhezkazgan from where they will return home.
The team smiled as they spoke to masked members of the recovery team, and NASA and Roscosmos said they were in good condition.
As a component of additional precautions due to coronavirus, the rescue team members who gathered the team were evaluated for the virus and the number of others involved in the recovery effort was limited.
Cassidy, Ivanishin and Vagner have spent 196 days in orbit since arriving at the station on April 9.
NASA’s Kate Rubins and Nasa’s Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Roscosmos’ Sergey Kud-Sverchkov arrived at the outpost in orbit for a six-month stay.
Before the team left, Russian cosmonauts had to temporarily seal the air leak, which they tried to locate for several months. The small leak was not an immediate danger to the station team and Roscosmos engineers worked on a permanent board.
In November, Rubins, Ryzhikov and Kud-Sverchkov are scheduled to host NASA’s first SpaceX Crew Dragon operational project, which includes NASA astronauts Mike Hopkins, Victor Glover and Shannon Walker, and Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Soichi Noguchi. 2 previous project this year.
