The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism will commemorate World Tourism Day on Tuesday with several occasions and activities
Muscat – The sultanate, represented through the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT), will celebrate World Tourism Day on Tuesday through various occasions and activities aimed at strengthening Oman’s prestige as a distinct tourist destination.
This year, World Tourism Day will be celebrated with the theme “Rethinking Tourism” selected through the United Nations World Tourism Organization taking into account the scenario of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting global economic difficulties.
With the aim of boosting tourism activities in the sultanate, MHT seeks to achieve the goals of Oman’s Vision 2040, which aim to increase the tourism sector’s contribution to GDP from 2. 4% in 2021 to 5% until 2030 and 10% until 2040.
HE Azzan bin Qassim al Busaidi, undersecretary of tourism at the ministry, said: “Official statistics show an expansion of 39. 3 in the number of Omani citizens working in the hotel sector, from 3752 in 2020 to 5230 last year.
He added that the tourism sector in Oman has demonstrated resilience and ability to temporarily overcome setbacks. “This can be seen in the increase in guest numbers, hotel revenues and occupancy rates. The sector also has the capacity to generate more jobs and investment opportunities. We have ambitious plans to build those opportunities.

Commenting on the sultanate’s World Tourism Day birthday party, he said: “The ministry, in cooperation with various partners, will organize the Oman Tourism Meeting on September 27 and 28. MHT will also host events to showcase Oman’s program to Qatar’s efforts to make the 2022 FIFA World Cup a good fortune and promote Muscat as a major city approved to attract football enthusiasts from November 20 to December 18.
