The COVID-19 local network working group should put its online page with knowledge about the transmission of the virus on the network on “pause” due to low traffic.
Last month, the city of Columbus, Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. and Columbus Regional Health jointly agreed to “pause” for now, said Mary Ferdon, the city’s executive director of network management and development.
During the pandemic, the website, covid19communitytaskforce. org, has included regular updates on COVID-19 hospitalizations at Columbus Regional Hospital and measures, links to virtual press meetings with local officials, data on small business loans, official local fitness updates, links to vaccination sites, among the data.
Currently, it says it’s “no longer up to date,” but it still includes links to data on COVID-19 testing, vaccines, the Indiana Department of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard, as well as data in Spanish.
“Traffic to the site was minimal and it made more sense to direct other people without more data about testing and vaccines to sites connected to our website,” Fillon said. “These sites come with the CRH, the state of Indiana, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We also have a link in Spanish for our Spanish-speaking residents. “
The online page was launched on March 24, 2020, some time after the Community Working Group was formed when the first wave of COVID-19 spread across the country.
The group of runners, which was formed in February 2020, includes representatives from HRC, the Columbus Mayor’s Office, Bartholomew County Health Department, Bartholomew County Emergency Management, BCSC and Cummins Inc.
The corridor organization has met several times since then to discuss and coordinate the network’s reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In April, the executing organization reduced network transmission reporting on CDC measures for network risk.
The local task force’s resolution comes as the Indiana Department of Health announced last month that it would shrink its statewide COVID-19 panel and update it only weekly on Wednesdays, rather than each and every day of the week.
Over the past month, COVID-19 has killed two Jennings County residents, a Bartholomew County resident and a Jackson County resident, according to the most recent update from the Indiana Department of Health state panel.
Over the past week or so, COVID-19 hospitalizations at HRC have ranged from five to seven, the hospital said. On Thursday, another six people were hospitalized in CRH for coronavirus infections, adding one indexed user in critical condition.
A total of 252 citizens of Bartholomew County have died from the virus since the pandemic began.
No one covers Columbus, Indiana and the surrounding spaces like The Republic.
