But scientists have yet to agree on how to officially classify the phenomenon, with a war of words over whether the June moon is a supermoon.
Al-Masry Al-Youm explained the main points of the debate according to data provided through the official page of the Jeddah Astronomy Society on Facebook:
*The moon looks like a full moon during the night, however, scientifically, the term “full moon” arises when the moon is at an angle of 180 degrees to the sun, which will happen at 1:51 p. m.
* When the Moon is full, it finished part of its orbit around the Earth in June, 11 hours and 32 minutes before reaching perigee, which is known to be its closest distance to Earth.
* After a short era at sunset, the full moon rises from the southeastern horizon.
*The moon is “Giant Moon” when it is a new or full moon when the distance between the center of the moon and the center of the Earth is less than 362,146 kilometers.
* The moon will be 16% brighter and its apparent length 6% larger than average, so there will be no noticeable difference in its apparent length than usual.
The Strawberry Moon appears on planet Earth from June 13 to 15, while the rotation of the lunar disk is perfectly perceived with the naked eye.
The peak of the full moon will take position tonight, Tuesday, when the disk of the moon will be complete and its brightness will reach 99. 7%.
