PERU, NE – Peruvian State Volleyball fell to the William Penn Statesmen in a 5-set match on Saturday afternoon at the AWAC. The Bobcats are 3-14 in the Heart of America Conference and 8-22 overall. The Bobcats celebrated their six seniors before the game.
The Bobcats started the game with a shot through Elli Williams (JR. , OIathe, KS), followed by a shot through Erison Vonderschmidt (FR. , Falls City, NE) and a block through Vonderschmidt and Addison Schneider helping the Bobcats pass. -point. with their enemy until the statesmen controlled to take a 14-7 lead. Solid defense and attacks from Erison Vonderschmidt and Elli Williams helped the Bobcats begin to close the gap, but WP controlled to secure a set win with a score of 25. -21.
In the second set, the Bobcats soared on missed serves from Allie Schneider, getting back-to-back aces and spikes from Kalyssa Fox (JR. , Casa Grande, AZ). But the statesmen managed to come back to stay. The tightening was close, aces from Chantal Paniagua and a big block from Erison Vonderschmidt and Addison Schneider and a final kill from Allie Schneider ended the set for a Bobcat victory, 27-25.
The Bobcats got off to a rocky start in the third set, allowing the Statesmen to take a 5-1 lead, but a series of missed serves and back-to-back aces from Sidney Peck (Sr. , Man. , Canada) cut the deficit. for the team. The Bobcats continued to battle the set with Kalyssa Fox, Keiley Hein, and Erison Vonderschmidt notching several wins. Peru kept the attack going with decisive shots and a block by Elli Williams assisted through Allie Schneider, but the Statesmen took the lead. leading, winning the set 25-23.
Allie Schneider won the fourth set with an ace on serve. Even with great spikes and smart serves from Sidney Peck, the Bobcats found themselves trailing 17-12. The Bobcats didn’t give up and Allie Schneider’s hard serves and indefensible attacks brought the Bobcats back. with a service ace from Sidney Peck, winning the set for the Bobcats, 25-22.
The Bobcats fought hard in the fifth set, keeping the score close. Elli Williams came out with a kill and a block assisted by Kalyssa Fox. Keiley Hein had some big hits as the Bobcats struggled throughout the set. Although the Bobcats never relinquished the lead, the statesmen came away with a 15-10 lead.
Erison Vonderschmidt (FR. , Falls City, NE) led the Bobcats with 11 kills and 20 attacks that day. Keiley Hein (SR. , Omaha, NE) had 11 kills and twelve attacks for the game. Addison Schneider (SO. , Humphrey, NE) had six blocks for the Bobcats, Allie Schneider and Elli Williams had 4 blocks for the Bobcats. Chantal Paniagua (SR. , Santo Domingo, D. R. ) added 21 attacks. Allie Schneider (MR. . , Humphrey, NE) had 10 attacks and 40 assists.
