The Singapore government is charging an airline passenger after he allegedly stole more than $23,000 from passengers on the plane.

During the robbery, Xiuqiang managed to borrow a total of more than $20,948 from a black backpack, the government said.

The individual also allegedly recovered $1,500 from an envelope in a bag and more than $500 from a backpack on the plane.

Xiuqiang was charged on Monday with three counts of theft and faces up to three years in jail, according to the report.

An airline spokesperson told CNN that the individual was escorted off the plane upon landing.

“Our cabin crew alerted through a passenger to a suspected theft in the cabin and activated the airport’s police division,” Scoot’s spokesperson said. “The passengers in question were escorted off the plane through the airport government for further investigation, and disembarkation proceeded as usual. for the rest of our passengers. “

Scoot is a low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines.
