LAMONI, IA – The Bobcats of the State of Peru defeated the Graceland Yellowjackets 3-1 in Lamoni, Iowa, in their final game of the season on Tuesday, October 31. The Bobcats finished their season 4–14 in the Heart of America Conference and 9–22 overall. It’s their only away win in 2023.
In the first set, Keiley Hein (SR. , Omaha, NE) and Elli Williams (JR. , OIathe, KS) came out to start the set with decisive spikes. Strong serves from Chantal Paniagua (SR. , Santo Domingo, R. D. ) and spikes from Keiley Hein and Reagan Osterhaus (JR. , Wetmore, KS) created an 11-7 lead for the Bobcats. Serves from Rylee Hellbusch (JR. , Plattsmouth, NE), spikes from Erison Vonderschmidt (FR. , Falls City, NE) and a great block from Addison Schneider (SO. , Humphrey, NE) and Erison Vonderschmidt created a 19-13 lead. The Yellowjackets simply couldn’t triumph over Keiley Hein Forged blocks and a serve ace late in the set. The Bobcats won the first set 25-18.
The Bobcats cruelly faced the Yellowjackets in the second set. The set begins with a block by Kalyssa Fox (JR. , Casa Grande, AZ) and Elli Williams. Back-to-back kills by Keiley Hein and blocks that the Yellowjackets couldn’t avoid allowed the Bobcats to take an 18-13 lead into the set. Serves from Chantal Paniagua and Allie Schneider (SR. , Humphrey, NE) and a last-row smash through Erison Vonderschmidt sealed the deal for the Bobcats in the second set, winning the set 25-18.
In the third set, the Bobcats won the set on a serve ace from Keiley Hein, killed through Erison Vonderschmidt and blocked through Addison Schneider and Kalyssa Fox. The Bobcats beat the Yellowjackets point-for-point with several shots from Kalyssa Fox, Erison Vonderschmidt and Addison Schneider. to stay in the set, but the hosts controlled to take the lead and win the set 25-23.
The Bobcats got the fourth on Erison Vonderschmidt’s shots. They kept the set close until the Yellowjackets controlled to take a 22-14 lead. The Bobcats didn’t let the set go so smoothly, coming back with spikes from Addison Schneider and Keiley Hein and a big block from Allie Schneider and Elli Williams to bring the score to 23-20. Keiley Hein’s strong serves tied the game 24-24 in a war to the end. Wins via Erison Vonderschmidt and Addison Schneider sealed the set with a 29-27 victory. for the Bobcats.
