(Santa Barbara, Calif. ) — The Santa Barbara County Food Bank is asking the network to donate pieces of non-perishable food and turkeys or chickens in total to provide healthy food to neighbors facing food shortages this winter.
Fill the food bank! On Saturday, November 19, the food bank’s biannual drive-thru food drive will be held. From 10 a. m. to 2 p. m. At the new Food Bank Sharehouse on Coromar Drive in Goleta (just off Hollister between Los Carneros and Storke Roads) and at Toyota Santa Maria at 1643 South Bradley Road, network members can drop off non-perishable food.
The maximum pieces needed come with low-sugar nut butters, canned proteins like tuna or chicken, beans, rice, whole grains, pasta and tomatoes or canned sauce.
The purpose of the food bank is to collect enough food to fill a giant truck or 40,000 pounds of healthy groceries. In the true way of driving, food donators never want to get out of their car. Food bank volunteers download the donated pieces and participants will be on their way!It’s a simple way to leave your shopping on Saturday shopping for groceries or leisure.
“In the July-September quarter of this year, the food bank experienced the highest food demand noted since the first 3 months of the COVID pandemic,” explained Kelly Smith, Food Bank’s Learning and Community Engagement Manager.
“We served 111,000 people without doubling last quarter, largely because inflation probably wouldn’t stop. Leaving a bag of food is an undeniable and very useful way to help stave off hunger for our neighbors in need this year.
The food bank’s 2022 turkey drive now runs through Nov. 22 for Thanksgiving delivery and through December for upcoming holiday delivery. Turkeys and chickens are welcome donations. season.
Fresh or frozen turkeys or chickens can be delivered Monday through Friday from 7 a. m. .
Members of the South County network can drop off turkeys at 3 churches in Montecito on Sunday, Nov. 20 from 8 a. m. Presbyterian Church at 1455 East Valley Road or Our Lady of Mt. Carmel at 1300 East Valley Road.
