“We are here 24 hours a day at our borders,” says Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Kon.

They may not be directly targeted by terrorists or a foreign army, but infantrymen and officers of the IDF’s Bardelas (“Cheetah”) battalion face a similar and not easy task.

“Our fighters carry out their project with exceptional precision that prevents smuggling into Israel,” battalion commander Lt. Col. Ivan Kon told i24NEWS. “We are here 24 hours a day at our borders. “

Bardelas is one of the combined battalions of the Israeli army (IDF), composed of men and women. It operates in southern Israel, near the borders with Jordan and Egypt, countries with which Israel has signed peace treaties and is guilty of protecting them. .

This dominance has been popular with smugglers and, in recent months, smuggling attempts have been especially prominent. The explanation for this is that the IDF’s superior operations in the West Bank have limited smuggling opportunities there.

“Smugglers have to function in areas,” Kon says.

Smuggling attempts are thwarted almost every night. From Jordan, it’s basically weapons, from Egypt, basically drugs. The battalion acts on both borders with equal seriousness.

“Drugs from Egypt can succeed in corrupt organizations in southern Israel and save governance in that region,” Kon said.

The Israeli military’s attention can basically focus on threats from Iran and Lebanon, Gaza and the West Bank. But even the so-called “peace borders” still pose a major challenge.

The Bardelas battalion has achieved wonderful success. But everyone, from the commander to the commander, knows that the combat is not over.
