MANILA, Philippines – Metro Manila is still months away from a manageable number of coronavirus cases 2019 (COVID-19) even as the new infection curve has flattened, an expert from the University of the Philippines’ OCTA organization said Monday.
David previously said that the curve for COVID-19 infections in the country had already flattened, but reminded the public not to be complacent and to continue to stick to fitness protocols despite positive development.
“Our purpose is the number of transmissions so that we can now make quarantine easier and open up the economy more, but until then the fight is not over. We still have to work together. At least now we see the soft at the end of the tunnel, ” said David.
We know that if we keep doing this, then we can open before December and have a more general Christmas than expected, so now is not the time to relax. It’s time to keep doing what we want to do to save the broadcasts,” he added.
He also noted that the government is “on track” and that the public is doing its part to involving the spread of the disease.
“But we have to remind other people not to get too excited about the news, so that doesn’t mean we can be complacent, that we can pass out, and we can organize massive meetings. We still have to be careful because the virus is still there and keeps killing other people,” he added.
David also noted that while the number of COVID-19 infections has declined in metropolitan Manila, there are still other “emerging hot spots” in other parts of the country such as Bacolod, Iloilo and Tacloban.
He suggested that the government take into account the considerations of the spaces where the spread of the virus is contained.
Of the total, 48,803 are active cases, 184,687 are and 3,875 are deaths.
