The number of foreigners in Japan doubled in October when borders reopened

CLEAR

The number of foreign visitors to Japan in October more than doubled from last month to 498,600, the government’s knowledge showed on Wednesday, largely due to a backlog of arrivals from South Korea.

The figure, which follows the lifting of COVID-19 access restrictions on October 11, is still 80% lower than in the same month in 2019 before the COVID-19 outbreak, according to Japan’s National Tourism Organization.
