In 1999, a boy named Uzi Nissan turned down an offer from Nissan Motor Company to buy the domain called Nissan.com, which he used for his electronics company Nissan Computer. Nissan (the automaker) then attempted to bring the contractor’s dominance to court, triggering a multi-year legal war that Uzi said charged him $3 million. But in the end, it was the great Nissan that subsidized, and Nissan.com remained Uzi’s asset, which reused the site to count its confrontation with the company’s giant. However, in recent weeks, Nissan.com has darkened, and this is possibly because Uzi unfortunately lost his life due to COVID-19.
Uzi’s passing was announced via a GoFundMe campaign, which his surviving family members launched Saturday, July 18. The Nissan clan states that it will use any funds received to cover medical expenses accrued from Uzi’s struggle with COVID-19, as well as fund higher education for his children. To that end, it has raised just over $15,000 at the time of this article.
Nissan.com Archived Home Page
The effortless online page from the former entrepreneur appears to have been offline since July 10, when its homepage was recently archived at Wayback Machine. An expert generation engineer, the Uzi Nissan site would possibly have been self-hosted and, in his absence, any challenge to the server might have put the site out of service temporarily (or permanently). Regardless of the cause of the site outage, a statement to The Drive through Nissan (Motor Company) suggests that a domain acquisition is probably not in the automaker’s plans.
“Nissan North America has established NissanUSA.com as our U.S. homepage,” stated Dan Passe, Director of Corporate communications for Nissan North America. “Most consumers find brands via marketing messages, online search or social media, and NissanUSA.com is easily identified through these channels.”
Jalopnik has published an exceptional article about Uzi’s constant exchange with Nissan in 2018. It is worth reading in its entirety, as it represents its voluntary nature, migrating from Israel to the United States 40 years ago and alone. made a businessman who took over a giant car.
