The latest: official says pandemic is cooling in Mexico

MEXICO CITY – Mexico’s leader in the coronavirus outbreak says that 3 weeks of continued decline in the number of new coronaviruses mean the country is experiencing pandemic relief.

Undersecretary of Health Hugo Lopez said on Wednesday that “we are now seeing a sustained trend.”

Still, he warned that “the threat is not over,” as his reported higher grades showed infections and deaths. Confirmed cases increased from 5,792 to 537,031, and another 707 deaths were shown, bringing Mexico’s total to 58,481.

Gatell warns Mexicans that the fitness emergency is likely to last until October, when the normal flu season begins.

HERE’S THE MOST THAT’S HAPPENING:

LOS ANGELES – The mayor of Los Angeles has said he has legal to close public services in a house in the Hollywood Hills that has been the scene of noisy parties despite the ban on giant meetings by the coronavirus pandemic.

Mayor Eric Garcetti said Wednesday that “this space has become a nightclub in the hills, giant gatherings in flagrant violation of our public fitness orders.”

The people did identify the domain of space or the owner.

Garcetti has previously warned that such measures would be taken against housing and business to host parties. He says parties can be “superpropathing” of the coronavirus.

His caution came days after many others attended a party at a mansion without a mask or social move. The party ended with a shootout that killed a woman and injured two other people.

MELBOURNE, Australia – The access point of Victoria’s coronavirus in Australia has retreated to public reaction to a decree prohibiting Melbourne citizens from taking up a practice post.

The Victorian government said Wednesday night that citizens of Australia’s largest city at the time can now drive up to five kilometers (3 miles) from their homes to exercise. Those who have been fined for doing so since the blocking restrictions were higher this month can ask the police to review their case.

Government retirement followed a public dispute between a Victorian prime minister, Daniel Andrews, and a Melbourne resident for being limited to walking in his own neighborhood.

NEW ORLEANS – Louisianan Noel Alexander helped build Pine Hill Baptist Church in downtown Leesville. He had been his music minister, participated in committees, and he and his wife carried the church books. After his death by COVID-19 at the age of 79, his scale and funeral were planned for the church he loved.

But their circle of relatives says that when they arrived, they were told they may not set the scale or funeral on the spacious construction recently used due to the coronavirus pandemic. They say the funeral director had been informed that he would be greeted with a gun if he tried to bring the frame inside.

Donna Hunt is one of Alexander’s six young women and says “it’s extraordinarily devastating.”

The pastor of the church, Tri Evans, had approved Alexander’s service but was not there when he intended to take place. Instead, two church officials were present and told the circle of relatives that the funeral might not take place.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Evans said the church voted Sunday to apologize to the family circle and create a memorial fund in Alexander’s honor to supply flowers and funeral food, to which Alexander helped.

Evans did not move to the main points of what had happened, but warned that church officials who had made the resolution to ban funeral facilities were afraid. In Evans’s words: “There was a lot of fear. Unfortunately, on many levels, this is the world we live in right now. (People) take a look to locate themselves and make big mistakes.”

Family members say they do blame the church as a whole.

ATLANTA – The governor of Georgia is protecting his administration of the coronavirus pandemic after a report from the White House Coronavirus Working Group said Georgia led the country last week in new capital-consistent cases.

The White House report recommends several measures to combat the virus that Gov. Brian Kemp has refused to take, final bans and requiring the use of a mask in counties with at least 50 active cases.

Kemp insisted Wednesday that the markers he looks at paint another picture.

Georgia was one of the first states to ease pandemic restrictions this spring, and infections subsided for weeks, began to accumulate in June and peaked last July.

The White House Coronavirus Working Group report indicates that Georgia recorded 216 new instances consisting of 100,000 inhabitants last week, at the national average of 112 new instances consisting of 100,000 inhabitants.

___

CHICAGO – Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker promotes a saliva from the University of Illinois as a possible “game change” in combating the new coronavirus.

The check consists of spitting into a checkup tube and can give effects in a few hours. University officials said the check had earned an emergency use authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The university has completed more than 50,000 checks since it was done to faculty, staff and academics last month. The university plans to review another 20,000 people a day when the fall semester begins next week.

Pritzker says it can be used statewide for K-12 schools.

The news came when Illinois reported 2295 new cases of coronavirus and 25 deaths. In general, the number of cases shown by the state is 211,889, 7,806 deaths.

___

PHOENIX – The former arizona state fitness director said the downward trend in coronavirus cases means that parts of the state can meet the 3 parameters set for at least a partial reopening of schools before Labor Day.

Will Humble says bars and nightclubs in at least some counties can meet the reopening setup soon after. But he says applicable regulations are needed for that to happen.

State fitness officials reported that 637 cases showed cases of coronavirus and 105 deaths wednesday. This is well below the peak of around 5,000 new instances consistent with the day in early July.

___

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – Louisiana lawmakers are following a disputed contingency plan to hold the state’s fall election against the pandemic despite Gov. John Bel Edwards’ goal of rejecting the plan if it comes to his office.

House and Government Committee Republicans voted almost in a block Wednesday to advance the proposed emergency plan through Republican Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin in the House of State for consideration. This eliminates most reasons related to coronavirus for a user to request a vote by mail, forcing others to vote for the user despite the virus outbreak, unless they have recently tested positive for COVID-19.

Regulations will be used in the November 3 presidential election or the December 5 state election because Edwards, a Democrat, intends to block them.

The deadlock is likely to leave a federal trial on how Louisiana is holding its fall election, due to a pending lawsuit filed by voting rights advocates seeking to expand mail-in voting options.

The map, which will use 4 colors to rank the opening prestige of the county’s 55 school systems, “was very remarkable to me,” Dr. Deborah Birx said at a press conference. “I’m afraid West Virginia will get a call from 49 other governors.”

The map is based on the average seven days of new daily instances consisting of 100,000 inhabitants and varies in color from a minimum network transmission in green to a truly extensive red transmission. Red counties will have to suspend in line with training and activate distance learning plans.

Birx, coordinator of the White House Coronavirus Working Group, said the map of the school alert formula in the state provides “very transparent recommendations on what to do based on its category.”

___

DAHLONEGA, Georgia – A northern Georgia school formula that has refused to provide the existing number of coronavirus cases to the local newspaper now reports that 85 of its academics are quarantined. The Lumpkin County School System states that 10 students and nine workers tested positive for COVID-1nine.

The dispute between the school system and the local media comes amid heated debate in Georgia over whether schools should be open for in-person learning. One of the state’s biggest school districts — Cherokee County in the Atlanta suburbs — has temporarily closed three large high schools after the virus led to the quarantines of more than 2,000 of its students.

The Dahlonega Nugget reports that the school principal would give the figures so that they can be published in the newspaper in the midst of a dispute over their media coverage. Lumpkin County Superintendent Rob Brown told school board members in an email that the paper had created “unnecessary concerns and panics” with a previous title. The school formula serves approximately 3,830 students.

___

BOISE, Idaho – Idaho Gov. Brad Little is convening the part-time legislature for a special consultation on the coronavirus pandemic.

The Republican governor in a press release Wednesday said the special consultation will begin Monday. He said lawmakers would amend the electoral law and establish transitional liability criteria similar to those of the pandemic. Lawmakers called for a special consultation to address both issues.

Lawmakers say polling stations for November elections may be limited due to a lack of volunteers. Some lawmakers also say that a liability law is needed for the government, schools, and personal corporations of frivolous lawsuits through others who contract COVID-19.

___

SALEM, Oregon – Oregon citizens expecting unemployment can now request a $500 emergency check.

Persons eligible for payment for being single must have earned less than $4000 before tax according to the month before losing their job, being an Oregon resident, being 18 years of age or older, and the employer must have closed or the source of income “have decreased particularly as a result of measures taken through the control of Governor Kate Brown to curb the spread of COVID-19.”

___

PARIS – France recorded more than 3,700 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The health government says it’s 1,500 more than the day before. The number of hospitalizations and extensive care was slightly reduced. But the fitness administration says “transmission of the virus is increasing” among all age groups, especially young adults.

President Emmanuel Macron told Paris-Match magazine that “we can’t prevent the country.” But he would do a “targeted reconfiguration … if the scenario requires it.”

French authorities have shown nearly 30,500 deaths from COVID-19, the seventh in the world.
