BRUSSELS – The European Union joins the COVID-19 COVAX vaccine alliance to help provide access to any long-term vaccine to others living in countries that could not possibly do so.
The EU’s executive arm, the European Commission, announced on Monday that it will contribute EUR 400 million ($478 million) to the programme.
Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the aim is to work together “in purchasing future vaccines to the benefit of low and middle income countries.”
