BEIJING – The number of new COVID-19 cases in the Xinjiang region of far northwest China continues to decline, with 28 reported on Monday. China reported 43 new cases nationwide, seven of the imported cases and 8 in the northeastern province of Liaoning. No new deaths were reported, leaving China’s total at 4,634 out of 84,428 cases. All new cases in Xinjiang occurred in the regional capital and the largest city of Urumqi, which has been at the center of China’s last primary outbreak since they were first detected there in mid-July. The region reported a total of 590 cases, all still 4 in Urumqi, where the government conducted massive testing, reduced public transport, moved some communities away, and limited the city’s exterior. However, while the most recent outbreak in mainland China appears to have peaked, the government of Hong Kong’s semi-autonomous Chinese city is suffering a new wave of infections, with more than two hundred new cases added this weekend.

JOHANNESBURG – South Africa on Saturday surpassed 500,000 cases of COVID-19, representing more than 50% of all coronavirus infections reported in African countries.
Health Minister Zwelini Mkhize announced 10,107 new instances on Saturday night, bringing the country’s cumulative total to 503,290, 8,153 deaths.

WASHINGTON – Rep. Raul Grijalva of Arizona says he has coronavirus.
The Democrat says he tested positive for coronavirus a few days after sitting next to the member, Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert, who announced positive control this week.
Grivalva, 72, is at least the eleventh congressman known to have tested for the virus.
Gohmert, a Republican, questioned the wearing of a mask and walked through the Capitol without one.
Grijalva issued an Array saying in part: “This week has shown that some members of Congress are not taking this crisis seriously. Many Republican members regularly strut around the Capitol without a mask to make a self-centered policy at the expense of their colleagues, staff and families.

ATHENS, Greece – The Greek government says there have been 110 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, the fourth highest number and the highest since April.
Authorities say 23 of the cases concerned meat processing workers in the northern city of Kavala. Tests on all 140 workers are still ongoing. Ten other cases concerned other people attending a wedding in the northern city of Thessaloniki, Greece’s largest moment.
Only in the cases did they refer to incoming travellers.
Greece has a total of 4,587 shown and 206 deaths, and no deaths were reported on Saturday.

HEREBATON RED, Louisiana – Two federal judges from Louisiana have refused to prevent compliance with Governor John Bel Edwards’ coronavirus ordinance that prohibits bars from allowing consumers to drink on site.
Federal District Judge Robert Summerhays in Lafayette friday rejected a transitional restraining order requested from 11 Acadiana-area bar owners who filed a complaint against Edwards’ ruling restricting takeaway and delivery bans.
Federal District Judge Martin Feldman in New Orleans turned down a restraining order requested through 22 homeowners in southeastern Louisiana who filed the same lawsuit in their regional federal court.
Feldman held an audience on August 14 on other arguments in the New Orleans case. Summerhays held an audience in Lafayette on August 17.
Bar owners argue that the Democratic governor’s restrictions are unconstitutional, illegally targeting an advertising industry without sufficient evidence for Edwards’ claim that bars are causing the spread of COVID-19 disease more than any other company.
The governor and his fitness advisers say the bars have proven to be very problematic because other people tend to snuggle up hard in internal combination without a mask while drinking and wasting their precautions against the virus the more alcohol they consume.

BERLIN – Authorities say a painter from the Austrian chancellery tested positive for coronavirus, but did not paint with Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.
The Austrian news firm reported that the chancellery said that other people who were in contact with the painter had received a negative result and that workplace paintings were not affected by infection of the auxiliary workplace. Kurz gets tested for the virus.
Austria’s pandemic control has sometimes been deemed to have been successful. The country has recently tightened regulations on the use of masks after a buildup of new infections.

MEXICO CITY – Mexico has become the third country with the highest number of COVID-19 deaths in the world, the United States and Brazil.
