Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, public life in many countries came to a halt in early 2020. The objectives of this study were (i) to observe the linguistic practices of multilingual families during the pandemic, in general and specifically in homeschooling conditions; and (ii) determine the extent to which case adjustments caused by the pandemic have affected children’s language use and proficiency, as well as family well-being. Parents from 587 families responded to an online survey of 1,051 children. Data were analyzed using ordinal logistic regression. Our effects showed that for the maximum number of children, there was no replacement in language use, competence, or well-being. When there were adjustments, they were more likely to be in (families with) preschoolers. The use of the internal language for homeschooling (part or all of the time) did not have a negative effect on Dutch language proficiency, but it did have a positive effect on internal language proficiency.
