“We want volunteers for rehearsal. So we announced it and now we’re getting calls.We’ll start testing once we get the approval of our ethics committee,” said an official from one of the hospitals who conducted the trial.
So far, of the 17 sites leading the trial, the KEM Hospital study center in Pune is in a position with its list of volunteers who have not yet begun measuring the vaccine in humans, said some other informed officials.
In a clinical trial, the site has a committee that verifies whether the test complies with moral rules and the test protocol, without which the principal investigators at that specific site cannot continue.
An informed source said none of the sites have administered doses of the Covishield vaccine to volunteers, but some will start this week.
Serum Institute declined to comment.
The company had obtained approval from the Comptroller General of Medicines of India, V.G.Somani, earlier this month, for Phase 2 and 3 trials with approximately 1,600 patients at 17 sites in India.
Serum Institute signed a pact with Astrazeneca in June to deliver one billion doses of the vaccine, and earlier this month it also signed another pact with Novovax to produce at least one billion doses of its NVX-CoV2373 candidate for India and another low source of income.countries.
Earlier this month, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, along with Gavi-The Vaccine Alliance, announced that it would provide $150 million in threat investments to the Serum Institute of India for the production of two promising vaccines through oxford university and Novavax on the condition that the Pune-based company is worth any of the vaccines at a maximum of $3 according to the dose.
