TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) — The man convicted last year of coordinating the killing of Honduran environmental activist Berta Cáceres has been sentenced to more than 22 years in prison. A sentence handed down Monday sentenced Roberto David Castillo Mejia to 22 years and six months. She is a member of the Lenca Indigenous organization that led the opposition to a dam assignment in which Castillo Mejía participated. You may appeal the sentence. Prosecutors said the killers were acting on behalf of a company, Desa, which was building a dam that the activist opposed. Castillo Mejía headed the task. Prosecutors alleged that Castillo Mejia paid the hitmen and provided them with logistical support.
