The governor of Tamil Nadu had observed in the past a seven-day self-isolation on July 29 on the basis of a medical recommendation after 3 other people from Raj Bhavan tested positive for coronavirus. At least 84 security and chimney workers deployed in Raj Bhavan tested positive for the virus on July 23.

To stop the spread of the virus, the Government of Tamil Nadu previously announced a complete closure of the state on Sundays until the end of August.
