MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday was “disgraceful” the national government’s obvious satisfaction with its reaction to the coronavirus pandemic.

During his weekly radio show, “BISErbisyong LENI”, Robredo in particular spoke about the reaction of presidential spokesman Harry Roque who “strongly disagreed” with his public speech in which he criticized management for not having anyone aware of the government’s reaction to COVID-19.

Roque denied the claim that the government’s reaction to the pandemic is lacking.

But Robredo disagreed.

“What is embarrassing here, Ka Ely, for example, is Secretary Roque’s reaction to our public discourse because it turns out that they are satisfied. You know, the government is satisfied with what it’s doing,” Robredo told co-host Ely Saludar, speaking in Filipino.

“That’s what bothers them: it happens to them when they’re told they’re missing the answer. And when you tell them they’re missing the answer, they’ll tell you it turns out they’re being denounced,” the vice president added.

“For me, a crisis like this, especially when people’s lives and physical condition are at stake, it is better, Ka Ely, that our reaction is quick. We must not get carried away by our reaction,” he said.

“When we feel satisfied, even if the numbers show that things aren’t going well, that’s what makes it difficult. We won’t because we think we’re already very competent,” he added.

In July, Robredo sent Roque a list of advice on how the government would react to the fitness crisis.

Roque said the palace had welcomed the recommendations, said they were nothing new and that all his proposals had been implemented for a long time.

As of August 30, there were 217,396 cases of COVID-19 across the country, of which 56,473 were considered as active cases. Recovery 157,403, while the death toll was 3,520.
