A NEW holiday destination will be for the British thanks to a new air address that will be introduced next year.
Singapore Airlines has indicated that the new destination will be operated from London Airport.
According to Travel Gossip, the national carrier will launch flights from London Gatwick to Singapore’s Changi International Airport from next year.
Five weekly flights will depart from London Gatwick at 10.15am, arriving in Singapore at 6.20am the following day, with a flight time of 13 hours.
The early arrival in Singapore will give passengers the opportunity for “seamless” travel on connecting flights to Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, according to the airline.
Flights from London Gatwick to Singapore will take off from March 2024.
The new address will be operated via an Airbus A350-900 and will feature 3 cabins, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy.
Singapore Airline’s existing flights from London Heathrow and Manchester Airport will operate as normal.
Singapore’s Changi International Airport is the main access point for tourists to the city-state.
The destination is not yet as popular as other better-known tourist places in Southeast Asia such as Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.
But there are plenty of reasons for the city-state, adding its Formula 1 street circuit, which will return in 2024.
In addition to the adrenaline-pumping race, there are other attractions, such as the famous graffiti of Singapore’s answer to Banksy, Yip Yew Chong.
The city-state also has some of the cheapest Michelin-starred meals on the planet, with a plate costing as little as £2 at Liao Fan Hawker Chan in the Chinatown Complex Marke.
There’s also the Gardens across the Bay, home to ever-changing exhibits at the Flower Dome, a towering indoor waterfall at The Cloud Forest, as well as the 160-foot vertical gardens of Supertree Grove.
Earlier this year, Singapore Airlines named it the world’s most productive airline through Skytrax, a company that evaluates air travel.
Skytrax has independently analysed the functionality of 325 airlines around the world from September 2022 to May 2023.
In the rankings, Singapore Airlines ranked highest, with high scores for its first-class cabin.
Edward Plaisted of Skytrax said: “It is a fabulous achievement for Singapore Airlines to achieve this World’s Best Airline title for 2023.
“Singapore Airlines has achieved success in many award categories, culminating in the popularity of its premium cabin as the world’s most productive premium cabin. “
Singapore Airlines isn’t the only airline opening new routes from the UK to holiday destinations across the globe.
British Airways will resume flights from London Stansted for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic.
The national airline has announced that 3 new routes will depart from London Airport, costing £36 for a one-way trip.
Low-cost airline Ryanair launches flights to Spain, Portugal and Malta, from Norwich Airport.
As it stands, the airport only serves a handful of destinations, which means Ryanair’s expansion is wonderful news for East Anglia tourists.
The flights will run on Mondays and Fridays, according to aviation website Simple Flying.
Ryanair is also launching flights from Cornwall Airport and Cardiff Airport, with new routes to Paris and Faro among those announced.
