That opportunity arose when May decided to administer the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine in December 2020, at the height of the global pandemic. This success, he acknowledged, is based on decades of perseverance and a lifelong commitment to service.
Throughout the month of May, this monumental moment provided a glimmer of hope in one of the darkest moments of the 21st century, affecting millions of people around the world. In recognition of her ordinary service, the late Queen Elizabeth II awarded May the George Cross Award, the UK’s highest civilian honour, making her the first and only Filipino to earn this prestigious award.
Throughout her career, spanning two decades in the National Health Service (NHS), May has been a shining example of the compassion, ability and artistic ethics of Filipino medical professionals. She considers her proficiency in medical English to be a key element that has allowed her to provide exceptional care and expand it to take on leadership roles and excel in dynamic healthcare environments abroad.
Today, as OET’s global ambassador, May shares her inspiring story to motivate her fellow Filipino healthcare workers. It encourages them to hone their communication and realize their dreams and perspectives on the global stage.

At the recent launch of OET’s partnerships with healthcare organizations in the Philippines, under the theme: “Advancing Healthcare Communication in the Philippines: OET’s Role in Collaboration,” company leaders emphasized their project to empower healthcare professionals. They discussed OTS’s most recent collaborations with the Nurses Association of the Philippines (PNA), the Dr. Carl Balita Group of Companies, and Philippine universities to equip Filipino healthcare workers with top-notch language skills and career opportunities.
