Honor Allen was 12 years old when he peeled his first oyster, and he didn’t know it was the beginning of a satisfied adventure that would lead him to champion titles.

Oyster shelling began as a hobby for the Panama City native. He spent most of his time at St. Andrews learning about the oyster industry and eventually landed his first assignment at Hunt’s Oyster Bar as an oyster sheller.

Soon after he started working, he learned that shelling oysters was all he was looking for to go one step further. So he participated in a local oyster husking contest to challenge himself and improve his craft.

And the more he played, the more he left. Now, Allen, 28, claims the championship’s name as the country’s fastest oyster sheller.
