Two vaccines from Zydus Cadila and Bharat Biotech have completed Phase 1. The Indian Serum Institute (SII) restarted trials after the approval of the Indian Comptroller-General for Medicines.
India is the producer of the candidate vaccine called Covishield, jointly developed through the Jenner Institute at the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca. The Pune-based company SII is achieving results at 17 monitoring sites across India.
Furthermore, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Limited, a global pharmaceutical company in India, agreed to cooperate in the clinical trials and distribution of the Sputnik V vaccine in India.
Sputnik V, an adenovirus-based vaccine, evolved through the Gamaleya Institute for Scientific Research in Epidemiology and Microbiology, with the Russian Direct Investment Fund and registered on August 11.

“With regulatory approval in India, RDIF will supply Dr. Reddy with one hundred million doses of the vaccine. The Sputnik V vaccine, which is based on a well-studied human adenoviral vector platform with proven safety, is recently undergoing clinical trials for the coronavirus pandemic,” said one member of the fund.
