The COVID-19 curve would possibly take a ‘bad trend’ if not flattened next week: Expert

MANILA, Philippines – The curve of coronavirus infections could become a “bad trend” if not flattened over the next week, a member of a University of the Philippines study organization said Wednesday.

According to David, the number of reproductions of COVID-19 cases, or the number of new infections estimated to come from a singles case, may be just under one this week.

(It deserves less than one this week, as flattening the curve wouldn’t take long. If it doesn’t flatten up over the next week, it means we’re back in the wrong trend. )

David said the number of COVID-19 breeding cases in the country decreased to less than one last week, but higher this week.

“The transmission is not increased, while short-term transmission is expanded, so that the number of reproductions is less than 1 kasi sobrang lapit and less than one. Big sabihin, kung hindi pa siya less than one next week, baka tumataas siya,” David explained.

(This means there has been an increase in transmission, but it may only be in the short term. We expect the number of views to be less than one again. If it’s still less than one next week, it may be piling up. )

“Kasi hindi naman siya nag-i-stabilize ng ganyan. Either you topped siya or bumababa siya, so make a natin effect next week. Kung Hindi siya bumaba, maximum probably tumaas siya kung hindi tayo nagflatten,” he added.

David added that if the number of contagions were recorded higher next week, the government would have to identify spaces that make a maximum contribution to the number of new cases.

The country recorded 224,264 cases of COVID-19 and on Tuesday 3,483 additional cases were reported, of which 62,655 are active, 3,597 are deaths and 158,012 are cures.
