The coronavirus has already reached each and every one of the continents of the planet, Antarctica, after Brazil showed its first case.
On Tuesday, Brazil’s fitness ministry said in a statement that it was examining a man in São Paulo. Brazilian media, adding G1 and Agora, later reported that he had tested positive for COVID-19.
The 61-year-old returned to São Paulo from Lombardy, Italy, on Feb. 21, the ministry said. He was due to travel to Italy for work on February 9.
This is the first case shown in South America, making Antarctica the continent without a recorded case.
Cases have been reported in Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Australia, and Oceania, as well as in Africa.
Not surprisingly, Antarctica has not yet recorded any cases. There is no official indigenous population and most of the other 4,400 people living on the continent are visiting scientists and researchers.
Asia is the most affected continent, with China being the most affected. As of Tuesday, China had recorded 78,064 cases and 2,715 deaths.
South Korea is also suffering from the outbreak. The number of people enraged rose to 1,146 on Tuesday, most of them members of an apocalyptic sect in Daegu.
In Europe, Italy is the most affected region. On Wednesday, another 11 people died from the virus and at least 322 other people are infected. 12 cities were quarantined. France recorded its first death on Wednesday.
Iran is the Middle Eastern country with the highest number of cases. At least 19 other people have died there from the disease.
In Africa there has been one proven case, but experts are concerned that there are many more.
North America is bracing for a surge in cases shown and has yet to record any deaths.
They have been demonstrated in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 39 of which came from the Diamond Princess cruise ship sent to Japan. There are 11 cases in Canada, according to its government.
Australia and Oceania have so far avoided a serious infection. There are 15 confirmed cases in Australia, according to News 9.
