The Oakland Coliseum, home of the Oakland A’s, is passing through the state of California as a possible site to build the state’s ability to combat the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
Addressing the state’s reaction to the outbreak on Monday, Gov. Gavin Newsom mentioned that the Army Corps of Engineers is at the Oakland Coliseum as a potential booster site.
“We’re looking at Sacramento’s Sleep Train Center, the Oakland Coliseum, the LA Coliseum and other sites in the state of California as potential surge sites,” Newsom said. “It’s all part of the plan to build our available capacity within our physical care delivery formula across 50,000 beds. “
Newsom said the ultimate goal is to increase maximum capacity through 50,000 hospital beds, as the coronavirus demands a giant reaction from the medical community.
The A’s are now on pause, with baseball and all other sports shut down as part of the national crusade to force others to isolate and avoid crowds. They reportedly played the Houston Astros this week before the schedule was canceled.
A statement through the club read, “The Oakland A organization is in a position to do everything imaginable to help those in need during this vital time for our community. “
