Social media users post percentages of screenshots of press articles similar to the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The screenshots show headlines such as “86% of young people experienced adverse reaction to Pfizer Covid vaccine in clinical trials” and several articles about Kejriwal supporting the use of the vaccine in India.
The claim: Users share the screenshots in question to claim that Kejriwal is fighting for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in India even though the government didn’t buy it, sharing it with an article claiming that most children who received the vaccine experienced side effects.

(Records of more claims may be here, here, and here. )
The figure of 86% of young people suffering adverse effects is true, but also misleading.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), 86. 2% of young Americans who earned the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine between the ages of five and 11 reported local reactions (such as itching, pain, redness, and swelling) after vaccination.
Similarly, that of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) shows that 79 to 86 percent of young people between the ages of 12 and 18 “reported pain at the injection site” in Saudi Arabia.
While it’s true that Kejriwal talked about making the Pfizer vaccine available to Indian children in May 2021, the Indian government never purchased the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for Indian citizens.
How we got out: First, we used keywords to search for the article that provides figures on children suffering adverse effects from the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
This led us to a call theleadingreport. com who published this article. The report provided a link to a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) fact sheet on the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, which has now been removed.
However, it included a fact sheet table, which showed that 86. 2% of young people aged 12 to 15 reported pain on injection after the first dose.
This percentage dropped to 78. 9% of young people who reported pain after the current dose.
The same numbers were also on Pfizer’s website.
The online page contained data from the FDA’s online page, which matches the numbers found on Pfizer’s online page.

The CDC and NCBI reports specify “adverse reactions”: We then sought more data on the effects of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in children, which led us to reports from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI).
According to the CDC report, which tested the effects of the Pfizer vaccine on children ages five to 11 in the United States, 86. 2 of them reported local and more commonly mild reactions after receiving the vaccine.
This knowledge corresponds to the figures in the table of the viral article.
The report states that 86. 2% of young people reported local reactions.

The NCBI also published a report on the effects of the vaccine on 12- to 18-year-olds in Saudi Arabia.
He said the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine showed one hundred percent efficacy in adolescents aged 12 to 15, of whom “79 to 86% of participants” reported “injection pain. “
According to the NCBI, between 79 and 86 percent of young people who won the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine reported pain at the injection site.

We also come across Kejriwal’s tweet, which cited an NDTV report, as tweets from Delhi’s sub-CM Manish Sisodia endorsing the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had said the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine would be purchased for “our children”.

The Indian had refused to buy COVID-19 vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer in September 2021, Reuters reported.
According to the report, there were two reasons for the refusal, the first being that India had a domestic source of more storable vaccine options.
The Indian government has also denied any legal coverage to the trademarks on the grounds of litigation over their effects, he added.
Bottom Line: While 86% of young people who won the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine reported adverse events, the claim is misleading because the “adverse reactions” that were reported were local reactions or pain at the injection site.
