The Center has approved the use of the Russian Sputnik Light Covid-19 vaccine as a booster dose, according to Hindustan Times, Livemint’s sister publication.

With this decision, other people who have won the first dose of Sputnik V will go on to administer boosters at private vaccination centers.

Dr. Reddy’s laboratories, the pharmaceutical company that owns the rights to market and distribute the Russian Covid-19 vaccine in India, have started discussions with production partners, hospitals, and the government to make the option available on the CoWIN platform. .

A few days ago, the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) stated that the Sputnik Light vaccine, which comprises the same ingredients as the first dose of Sputnik V, can be taken as a preventive measure.

The two doses of Sputnik V have different compositions.

Many beneficiaries in India who have received two doses of Sputnik V are in favor of the booster dose.

SputnikV is already included in the government’s national vaccination program. According to the CoWIN platform, more than 12,000,000 people have already won Sputnik V.

Sputnik Light obtained Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) in February this year.
