“Covid-19 still persists in the world with around thirty-five lakh cases reported every week” Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has sounded the alarm about the increase in Covid-19 cases worldwide.
Bhushan on Tuesday sent a notice to all states and union territories to speed up genome sequencing, as sudden Covid cases in countries such as Japan, the United States of America, the Republic of Korea, Brazil and China threaten the fourth wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
He reiterated that all guilty governments are helping to speed up the genome sequencing procedure of all covid-positive samples. Bhushan is under pressure that such a resolution would contribute to the early detection of new variants and facilitate the implementation of the necessary public suitability measures.
Bhushan said on Tuesday: “Given the sudden accumulation of cases observed in Japan, the US, Korea, Brazil and China, it is imperative to prepare whole genome sequencing of samples of positive cases to trace SARS variants from the genomics consortium of India”. -CoV-2. (INSACOG)”.
He added: “All states are asked to ensure that, to the extent possible, samples from all positive cases are sent to INSACOG-designated genome sequencing laboratories (IGSLs) that are assigned to states and UTs. “
Bhushan discussed that India, focusing on a five-pronged approach of testing-tracking-treatment-vaccination and compliance with appropriate Covid behavior, has been to limit the transmission of the Covid-19 virus and has around twelve hundred cases per week.
Bhushan, in his letter to the states and union territories, also said that the need of the moment is to be attentive to the trends of existing variants.
“The operational rules for the revised surveillance strategy in the context of Covid-19 published by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Union in June 2022 call for early stumbling onion, isolation and immediate control of suspected and shown cases to stumble upon and involve outbreaks of new variants of SARS-CoV-2”, Bhushan said.

The death toll stands at 530,677 with three deaths, adding two deaths recorded in Kerala and one in Maharashtra in the past 24 hours, according to data updated at 8 a. m.
