The Atlanta Braves have promoted outfielder Cristian Pache, the organization’s most sensible prospect. The resolution comes after the Braves placed veteran outfielder Nick Markakis on the disabled list after an imaginable exposure to COVID-19. Markakis tested negative, but the Braves disabled him as a precaution. First, Markakis had chosen not to participate in the 2020 season due to considerations of the virus, but then took the resolution to enroll in the club.
Pache, 21, originally signed outdoors in the Dominican Republic in 2015. It has a cut line of Array283/.331/.404 through 4 minor league games with 21 home races and 58 stolen ones. 428 games. Last season, Pache brought an OPS of 0.802 at the Double and Triple A levels.
As we progress through the 2020 season, our own R.J. Anderson ranked Pache ninth overall in baseball. Here’s what he wrote about Pache:
At his best, Cristian Pache looks like a long-running star: a demonic central defender with more forward-looking force than the 21 circuits of his career suggest. At its worst, he still sees himself as a valuable player, just one who can’t climb as much as expected offensively. Pache had an escape season before a promotion over to Triple-A, where some of his winnings, at least in terms of lifting the ball and hitting for more strength, disappeared. He continued to walk more than usual, which is a welcome sign for the acquaintances of the loose traders, but remained as heavy as ever. In fact, Pache fired about 57% of his bullets in 2019, according to FanGraphs. Only three qualified major league hitters finished with more than 50 percent, and none above Max Kepler with 53.4 percent. Everything that works, however, this kind of hiking to baseball shot can simply speak of a shortcoming in your game. Despite Pache’s speed, much higher than average, it has not yet become a stolen base risk, at least not smart. An 8-by-19 season (you read it right) leaves him with a smart career fortune rate of 60%.
The Braves can now use their help in the gardens. In addition to the loss of Markakis, the phenomenon Ronald Acuña Jr. is on the list of injured with wrist inflammation, and veteran midfielder Ender Inciarte has suffered a lot so far. There is no doubt that the Braves believe that their most productive hope is to take him to the bench (although he is not in Tuesday’s initial line-up), and is also responding to an acute need right now.
The Braves entered Tuesday’s roster with a 14-10 record and a small lead in the National League East.
