Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), symptoms of RSV infection and its remedy have come to attention recently after Egypt’s Ministry of Health revealed that it had taken smears showing that many children were infected with the virus.
Mohamed al-Nady, a professor of lung diseases and allergies and a member of the Health Ministry’s clinical committee to combat the coronavirus, said RSV is a virus that has been around since time immemorial, even before the flu.
All viral infections have symptoms to a large extent, he added, such as fever, pain when swallowing, shortness of breath and pain in the bronchi.
Nady went on to say that colds and flu are viral infections and have the symptoms.
The difference between them is the body’s reaction to those symptoms and the role of immunity in resistance to those viruses.
For treatment strategies for these viruses, Nady said the doctor determines the remedy for each case.
The main difference between RSV, colds, and flu is that the syncytial virus infects other people between seasons, especially in late fall and early winter.
The syncytial virus is no more harmful than other respiratory diseases such as the usual cold.
The syncytial virus infects children under five years of age and adults over 65 years of age or in patients with immunological diseases.
A difference is made between infection by syncytial virus, cold, flu or coronavirus by swab, and it will have to be analyzed, and depending on the results a remedy is determined.
Sometimes a remedy is provided depending on the symptoms. In case of fever an antipyretic is administered, while if the symptoms are accompanied by a sedative, an analgesic is prescribed, in addition to drinking plenty of warm liquids and sleeping well.
Syncytial virus symptoms: dry cough, fever, shortness of breath, sore throat and sneezing.
