Staff at the Art Gallery of Sudbury turn an area on Elgin Street into a temporary gallery for an exhibition.
They use the small room while resolving structural clutter in their John Street building, the historic Bell Mansion.
“This would have been at Bell Mansion if we hadn’t been closed for now,” said Nancy Gareh, the gallery’s director of education and systems.
“But we love being downtown because that’s where our ultimate home will be. So it’s a smart resolution for us and it’s smart for us to have a sense of what it’s like to be here.
Half of the small area features works from the Creative Kids program, while the other half features works by local artisans, which are for sale lately.
“Children’s art is a lot of fun. They bring a very positive touch to what they create. That’s why it’s a refreshing take on art,” said Sarah Blondin, education coordinator.

“It’s also great to support local artists and to see the local artists you have in your community and their interpretation of your surroundings is always kind of interesting.”
Structural at Bell Manor resulted in all educational systems being transferred to Laurentian University. That included this fall’s eight-week Creative Kids program.
“It’s very rewarding to be able to teach them to everyone, especially at other ages,” said Emily Sportan, Creative Kids instructor.
“There’s a lot of creativity, wonder and enthusiasm, so it’s rewarding to be their teacher. “
Laurentian University owns the assets of Bell Mansion and expects an engineering next week.
“The report will provide proposed designs, load estimates, and a timeline for repairs,” LU said in a statement to CTV News.
The pop-up area will be open until the end of this month, but it was said it could be expanded due to structural issues at the John Street Gallery.
