WASHINGTON – At his press conference Wednesday, President Trump, as he usually does, asked Chanel Rion, the white space leader of the conservative Network One America News, who has sometimes replaced Fox News as the president’s favorite media outlet. Rion’s consultation had nothing to do with COVID-19 or the economic recovery Trump boasted about, but he was referring to a hard-to-understand website, antifa.com.
“I wanted to point out some kind of strange situation. In the last hour or so, if you were looking” antifa.com “on Google, it would take you directly to Joe Biden’s online page, his official online cross page. “Strange situation,” Rion said, adding, “We don’t know who this is.”
We don’t know why he thought he raised this problem, because there’s no evidence that Biden’s crusade had anything to do with antifa.com, or vice versa. Instead, the phenomenon cited through Rion had a transparent link with Russia.
People to which one online page can redirect to another, without permission or even without knowledge of the site at the moment. Nothing Rion described would involve direct involvement in Biden’s campaign, which did not respond to a request for comment on the story.
Antifa.com records in the domain call database Whoisology.com show that the site was registered with the Russian Federation from 2013 until last July. Since last November, the site’s registration has been moved to Panama. The online page has been registered anonymously and its owners may not be contacted for comments.
After a brief redirect to Biden’s page on Wednesday, the site turned dark. Based on copies of the Archive website, it was empty from 2013 to June this year, when it began giving a message about protests that erupted in the United States following the murder of George Floyd. The page read, “We are actively expanding the number of members,” but did not provide any touch data for anyone interested in joining.
“We are Antifa: join us and act,” the note said, adding: “More to comeArray … Re-check the updates and how it can be part of anything that fits the world.”
The U.S. intelligence network has concluded that the Russian government crossed out to interfere in the 2016 election to help Trump and harm his Democratic opponents. This effort included extensive use of misinformation, Kremlin-owned media and social media. U.S. intelligence officials said the Russian government was involved in a similar effort in this year’s race.
Russian state media have highlighted tensions over Floyd’s protests. In June, a Bulletin from the Department of Homeland Security reported that the conscious signing of “secret agents and social media accounts” running with foreign rivals and its state media would use the protests to paint a bleak picture of the stage in the United States.
“Russian influencers, in particular, are used to online teams secretly magnifying content about protest activities in the United States, adding rhetoric that would possibly seek to incite violence at such events,” the bulletin reads.
Rion’s consultation gave Trump the opportunity to highlight one of his favorite crusade topics, biden’s far-left position, and, starting this week, Harris. Trump said leftists who protested and carried out acts of vandalism across the country were “part” of Biden’s crusade. While many protesters oppose Trump, not all of them are Biden. Antifa, short for “anti-fascist,” is a motion that does not have a transparent organization. Trump then promoted his administration’s efforts to quell the looting and vandalism of protesters with a competitive reaction from federal troops.
Rion did not respond without delay to a request for comment. His channel, One America News, which was discovered in 2013, is presented as “direct information,” but obviously has a pro-Trump tilt. The channel’s owners reportedly asked staff to advertise Trump and minimize Russian aggression. One of netpainting journalists Kristian Brunovich Rouz painted for Sputnik, an online Russian news page that U.S. intelligence officials saw as a role in the Kremlin’s 2016 election propaganda campaign. A 2017 Yahoo News investigation found that Sputnik’s painters had the particular task of “staying true to the national interest of the Russian Federation.” Rouz’s paintings for One America News have included segments that have falsely connected Democrats with antifa.
Rion has already drawn attention to the problems and touting conspiracy theories. Since March, she has participated in White House briefings challenging social estrangement regulations designed to prevent the spread of coronavirus between the press and staff. Rion said he was explicitly invited to attend through Officials of Trump’s management.
