AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Health Commissioner has addressed the state’s most recent public fitness priorities as it continues to deal with COVID-19 and emerging cases of monkeypox.
Texas Department of State Health Services Commissioner Dr. John W. Hellerstedt spoke on the occasion of the Distinguished Speaker Series in Austin on Thursday, organized through the Texas Public Health Coalition and the Texas Medical Association.
He said hospital cases of COVID-19 have declined right now, but monkeypox is a cause for concern.
The state fitness commissioner outlined the most pressing public fitness issues facing his office.
“Obviously, the story of the last 2. 5 years is COVID-19,” Dr. Brown said. Hellerstedt said.
He added that the latest knowledge that COVID-19 is here to stay.
“Keep in mind that viruses don’t need to kill you, they need to reproduce,” he explained.

“They’re better able to cause infections, but they’re less likely to make other people seriously ill, want to be hospitalized or die,” Dr. Hellerstedt said.

He added that so far no deaths have been reported in the United States, however, some patients have been hospitalized due to the intense pain the rash can cause.
Health officials said most of it spread through close contact with sex between men, but Dr. Hellerstedt warns he opposes the general public who reject the disease based solely on this fact.
“It’s very transparent that surfaces can become infected with viable ape pox from someone who has an active rash and has secretions,” he explained.
